A second-grade teacher within the Milford Public School District was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with possession of child pornography.

Vincent Kiejzo, 33, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of possession of child pornography, according to an announcement for the Department of Justice.

Kiejzo possessed approximately 6,000 images of apparent child pornography stored within a thumb drive, including images that involved a prepubescent minor or a minor who had not attained 12 years of age, according to the charging documents. Prosecutors said this was based on a preliminary onsite forensic review.

Kiejzo is a teacher at Memorial Elementary School, and has a classroom website set up for the upcoming year. Milford's school district is scheduled to start for all grades on Thursday. The teachers have returned for professional development, according to the school district's online calendar.

Kevin McIntyre, superintendent of Milford Public Schools, was not immediately available for comment.

Kiejzo has been tweeting updates on the school year from his professional account and the last tweet on Tuesday night.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ziejzo has worked in the Milford schools since 2008 in a variety of roles. He is also the co-founder and president of the Milford, Massachusetts, Foundation for Education.

The charging statute provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, five years and up to life of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, according to the Department of Justice.

Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors, according to the press release.

Following an initial appearance in federal court in Worcester, Kiejzo was detained pending a detention hearing scheduled for Friday, according to the DOJ press release.

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Matthew Shea, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston made the announcement Thursday. The Milford Police Department assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Noto of Lelling’s Worcester Office is prosecuting the case.
