The dead body of Dr Vishal Chari, an assistant professor in the department of economics at the Goa University, was found on Thursday in the isolated forest at Parvat, Paroda.
South Goa superintendent of police Mahesh Gaonkar confirmed that the decomposed body of Dr Chari was found hanging from a tree in the forest area on Thursday evening.
Dr Chari (37) was missing since August 29, Gaonkar said, adding that the assistant professor’s car had been found parked at Mulsa-Paroda on August 31, which was attached
by police.
Police-inspector of Quepem police station Santosh Dessai said that Dr Chari, who was wearing T-shirt, used “his pants to commit suicide”.
However, no suicide note has been found, Dessai said, adding that Dr Chari had left his home in a Tata Bolt car in the morning of August 29, and since then he was missing.
The dead body has been referred to the Hospicio Hospital for postmortem.
Teams from the Old Goa police station, the Quepem police station and also police personnel from the anti-terrorism squad had been trying to locate Dr Chari.
The Old Goa police had registered a missing person report after Dr Chari was reported missing from his Merces residence. Dr Chari originally hailed from Borim.
