'Perfect, precious': Boy, 14 months, dies after being hit by car in Bendigo

A 14-month-old child who was hit by a car in Bendigo has been remembered as a "perfect, precious" little boy.

The parents of Spencer Roberts were on Thursday grieving the loss of their little boy after the toddler was struck by a car in Kangaroo Flat.

Spencer was rushed to hospital with critical injuries and later died.

Family friend Gemma Douglas said the boy's parents Stacey and Brad would "sadly miss their perfect, precious little boy" and were being supported by family and friends at "this heartbreaking time".

"Spencer Reign Roberts, this precious little boy, will be sadly missed and [was] loved by many," she said.

"He was beautiful, fun, lovely, energetic, precious little boy adored by his brothers and sisters Rhylee, 16, Deklan, 14, Jacob, 13, and Kaylah, 12."

The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man from Maiden Gully, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jo Jeffrey said the child "wandered" onto the slip lane.

"The family live nearby," Detective Senior Sergeant Jeffrey said.

There have been 152 deaths caused by car accidents on Victorian roads this year. At the same time last year, there were 188 fatalities.
