Dinghy skipper dies after falling overboard near South Stradbroke Island

A man has died after falling into the water near South Stradbroke Island on Wednesday while manoeuvring his dinghy.

Emergency services were called about 6pm after the 51-year-old man skippering the boat fell overboard.

Witnesses on a nearby boat, who were believed to know the man, saw him fall and pulled him from the water.

They tried to revive him on their way back to the Gold Coast's Paradise Point jetty on Bruce Avenue.

Paramedics met them upon arrival and tried to save the man, but he died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
