The system also provides a 360-degree disinfection to a person’s belongingsGUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) has come up with an innovation that can provide community solution for fighting against Covid-19. Ensuring both surveillance and disinfection, the new system can prevent the spread of the virus.
In collaboration with Workspace Metal Solutions, IIT-G has developed the system, a self-check kiosk, which can detect if an individual is running a temperature or has low blood oxygen levels----symptoms of Covid-19 and other viral and bacterial infections.
Besides giving instant health updates, it provides a 360 degree disinfection of the belongings of the person through its UV-C chamber. The fully automated touchless kiosk has been designed as per WHO guidelines and if the parameters of the person are beyond the normal limits, it raises an alarm.
Senthilmurugan Subbiah, associate professor of the chemical engineering department of IIT-G, Puneet Talesara, founder, Workspace Group, and the alumnus of IIT-G, have come up with this need-of-the hour innovation, when Covid-19 cases are rising every day. The kiosks cost between Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh depending on the specifications and features.
A spokesperson of IIT-G said they have also installed a kiosk on their campus. “We have sought a patent,” he said, adding that with the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, ensuring safety of a person before he enters a building is most essential now.
Among the features of the kiosk is a UV-C disinfectant box capable of killing viruses and bacteria present on the surfaces of bags, bags, keys, mobiles and wallets, thereby reducing the risk of virus spread.
Once the temperature is measured, the person will have to wave his hand over the sensor of the UV-C chamber to open its door for disinfecting his belongings.
Subbiah, said the kiosk at IIT Guwahati is IoT enabled and its data analysis system is capable of creating employee/person health historical data. The software is capable of monitoring an individual’s health from historical data and in case of abnormal temperature and SpO2 level measured, then the kiosk generates an alarm to the health department authorities of the company/organisation/institute. “The system is capable of emitting UVC radiation from six surfaces of the UVC box and in 10 seconds, 99.99 percent of the viruses and bacteria would be disinfected,” he said.
