Margao: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday said that a centralised monitoring system is essential for the state of Goa to provide uninterrupted power supply and therefore the power department is keen on introducing a mechanism to monitor the power data centres through a private company.

Speaking to media persons after an hour-long demonstration presented by Ashida company officials to the minister in the presence of senior electrical engineers at Aquem, Cabral said, “I am happy with the demo, but we have sought some additional requirement which the company officials have agreed to. And, once it is done, we would have another demonstration. Ashida company has smart solution for power and its control. I will also discuss further with the engineers.”

He said that the mechanism introduced by the company gives details about the feeders as regards the time they go off and how and what time they were restored adding, “This will help to resolve the problems faster as information would also be shared over mobile phones of the respective technical persons. We are planning for the future. The earlier-introduced software needed upgrading.”

Meanwhile, Cabral said that many business establishments in Goa are hoping to see the situation normalise even though they have spoken to him for cancellation of power connections of their respective business establishments to save them from further losses that the COVID pandemic has inflicted upon them since the last six months.

Speaking at the sidelines of a demonstration on power control mechanism at Aquem power house area, Cabral said that he had written to the government to scrap the old vehicles considering either the criteria of them completing 15 years of life or have run for over 1,50,000 km. There are 159 vehicles to be scrapped in the power department which he said could not be done at a time.

“My engineers will sit with ACGL company and design vehicles that are required to transport power equipments along with workers,” he maintained adding, “Maximum compensation would be given to the kin of the victims who died in the recent Borim accident.”
