Teen stabbed to death with ice pick after argument over dance steps

Ghaziabad: A 19-year-old youth who had gone out for a late-night walk with his friend was allegedly stabbed to death with an ice pick by a group of teens during an altercation on Sunday in Ghaziabad’s Nandgram after he mocked their dance steps.
The victim, Nitin, who was attacked in the chest, back and head, succumbed at MMG hospital on Monday. One person has been arrested and a police team has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.
Police said Nitin was taking a stroll with Ankit outside his house after dinner around 9pm on Sunday when he noticed the teenagers dancing to Bollywood songs on the roadside and made fun of them for their 'shoddy' steps.
“This led to a heated argument between the two sides. The situation soon went out of control, and both sides called up their friends. Within minutes, about 50 youths gathered at the spot, some armed with hockey sticks and stones. The two groups attacked each other,” Abhishek Verma, SP (city), said.
“During the fight, Nitin was thrashed by some teens and attacked with the ice pick in his chest, back and head. Before we could reach the spot, the two groups fled the spot when they saw Nitin lying on the ground and bleeding from the chest,” he added.
Nitin cleared his Class 12 exams this year. Originally from Uttarakhand, he used to live with his mother and uncle in Ghaziabad. His father works at an eatery in Haryana.
The youth's uncle, Jagmohan, said they heard the news of the fight around 10pm. “Some locals informed us. We immediately rushed to the spot and found Nitin lying in a pool of blood near Great Om Son School in Nandgram’s Sihani Gate area. We took him to MMG hospital, where he died during treatment on Monday,” he said.
Ghaziabad SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said, “On the basis of a complaint, an FIR has been lodged against Lucky (18) and Sumit (19) for the murder under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC."
“While Lucky is a Class 10 student of a private school in Sihani Gate, Sumit studies in Class 11,” SP (city) Verma said.
