5.7 million people are victims of serious intoxication
According to the report of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment 'Magnitude of Substance Use in India 2019', alcohol is the most consumed among all types of drugs in the country. According to the report, about 14.6% or 16 crore Indians between the ages of 10 and 75 years are alcohol addicts. Of this, 5.7 crore people are victims of serious intoxication. About 27.3 percent of men and 1.6 percent of women are alcohol addicts. This means that 17 men are drinking alcohol as compared to one woman who drinks every drink. About 30 percent of the total consumption of alcohol is made from domestic liquor produced domestically. Talking on the basis of alcohol addicts, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Punjab, Arunachal, and Goa are the worst affected.
