183 Covid cases, 8 deaths in Patiala; 43 inmates in central jail test positive

PATIALA: In Patiala, 183 more persons including a healthcare worker tested positive on Wednesday and eight more succumbed to the Covid infection.
The tally reached to 7,658 positive cases so far whereas the death toll reached to 217 so far in the district. On Tuesday also exact a similar number of positive cases and deaths were reported.
The health authorities revealed that so far 43 positive cases have been traced out in Patiala Central Jail during contact tracing following which central jail was declared containment area. They said that the jail officials have been advised to take measures by preventing other jail inmates coming in the contact of infected patients. The infected inmates are isolated in separate barracks. The health officials said that advisory has been issued that the new under-trials or prisoners being brought to jail should be lodged in separate barracks and should not come in contact with inmates already lodged inside jails.
The health officials claimed that 6,093 patients have recovered so far whereas 1,348 are active cases. They said till date, 1,05,933 samples have been taken of which 95,525 tested negative and reports of 2,500 samples were awaited. Among the eight died included five deaths from Patiala, while one each from Nabha, Harpalpur and Dudhansadha blocks in the district. They said that all the deceased were between age group of 40 to 73 years old.
Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Harish Malhotra said that despite containment zone in Raghomajra the rise in the cases was being witnessed whereas already three persons have died in this area. He appealed that people were not following the guidelines including wearing of masks. He said around 3,000 more samples were collected on Wednesday. Around 70 per cent of positive patients so far were home-isolated. People should not believe in any kind of rumour.”
