THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported over 3,000 Covid cases for the second time on Tuesday with 3,026 people testing positive. The number of recoveries climbed to 68,863 after 1,862 people recovered from the viral infection and the toll reached 373 with 13 more Covid deaths being confirmed.
Among the new cases, 2,814 were via local transmission including a record 89 health workers and two CISF personnel, 49 had returned from abroad and 163 from other states. The state tally is currently at 92,515 and there are 23,217 active cases.

E Sreedharan (84) from Ernakulam; Usman (80) and Asmabi (49) from Kozhikode; V Rema (54), Ramesh Babu (56) and Muneer (44) from Kannur and Bahuleyan (57) from Thrissur were the deceased.
Thiruvananthapuram lead the tally with 562 new cases, followed by Malappuram (358), Ernakulam (318), Kozhikode (246), Palakkad (226), Alappuzha (217), Kollam (209), Kottayam (168), Kasaragod (166),
Pathanamthitta (160), Kannur (158), Thrissur (129), Idukki (85) and Wayanad (24).
As many as 542 got infected through local transmission in Thiruvananthapuram, followed by Malappuram (323), Ernakulam (293), Kozhikode (238), Kollam (201), Alappuzha (183), Palakkad (175), Kottayam (168), Kasaragod (159), Kannur (117), Pathanamthitta (114), Thrissur (126), Idukki (63) and Wayanad (21).
Among the health workers who tested positive, 32 are from Kannur, and the rest are from: Thiruvananthapuram (19), Ernakulam (12), Malappuram (10), Kasaragod (5), Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur (3 each) and Palakkad and Kozhikode (1 each).
A total of 1,98,850 people are under observation across the state with 17,887 in various hospitals. On Tuesday, 2,076 people were admitted to hospitals with symptoms. In the last 24 hours, 37,264 samples were tested and a total of 19,33,294 samples have been sent for testing.
As many as 13 new places were demarcated as hotspots while 20 were excluded. There are currently 568 hotspots in the state.
