Thai Airways opens plane-themed restaurant

9 Sep 2020 by Seher Asaf

Thai Airways has opened a restaurant that mimics the design of its plane cabins at its headquarters in Bangkok for flying enthusiasts missing the travel experience.

The restaurant, which is open to the public, seeks to recreate the inflight experience by offering plane food and decor that features the airline’s iconic purple, orange, and pink plane seats and pillows. There’s also a bean bag seating area.

The national carrier has grounded most of its planes due to the coronavirus crisis, and filed for bankruptcy protection in May. The government of Thailand said it would allow the airline to restructure under the supervision of the local bankruptcy court.

Diners at Thai Airways’ restaurant will be greeted by crew members dressed in full uniform. They will also receive a boarding pass as a souvenir.

The restaurant is open from Wednesdays to Fridays from 7 am. The airline says it will begin serving “international cuisine” between 9am and 2pm. There is also a bakery.

Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has asked the airline for the menu.
