At 97,400, India records highest daily case tally
India registered its highest Covid-19 cases in a single day on Wednesday at 97,399 — crossing the 97,000 mark for the first time since the pandemic began — even as the country appeared to be inching closer to the grim reality of recording one lakh fresh cases in a day.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said COVID-19 cases in Delhi would have been in the range of 1,500 had the government continued to conduct only 15,000-20,000 tests per day. His reaction came in response to data that showed Delhi recorded 4,039 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest single-day spike so far, as the total number of cases breached the two lakh-mark.

Nagpur registers 1,319 fresh COVID-19 cases; 59 deaths
With the detection of 1,319 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the tally of infections in Maharashtra's Nagpur district reached 44,556, an official said. Apart from this, 59 COVID-19 patients succumbed to the infection, raising the casualties to 1,458, the official said.
