FOXBORO – All summer long, the Patriots had Julian Edelman on a pitch count. The veteran receiver would appear in training camp one day, be limited the next and then absent a day or two after that. It seemed obvious that the team was doing their part to keep their No. 1 receiver healthy after he finished last season with several injuries.

On Wednesday, we found out that Edelman is still dealing with an injury. On this day, the 34-year-old was limited in practice with a knee injury.

The development was the most noticeable thing on the Patriots first practice report of the 2020 season.

On Sept. 1, Edelman was asked about getting days off in training camp.

"I’ve been playing here, this is my 12th year. This is the first time I’ve really done this," said Edelman, who was then asked the reasoning behind his missed practices. "We don’t talk about health here. I don’t even know if I can… So, I don’t want to, you know… we don’t talk about that."

If Edelman is limited is weekend in the Patriots regular-season opener, it’ll certainly be a big blow to the offense. The Patriots have two more practices this week and Edelman’s health will continue to be a big storyline.

Along with Edelman, receiver Gunner Olszewski (foot) and Chase Winovich (shoulder) were also limited. The Patriots were missing two players in practice on Wednesday – tackle Yodny Cajuste and linebacker Cassh Maluia.
