50% education department staff of Chandigarh asked to report at work

CHANDIGARH: Education secretary Sarpreet Singh Gill on Tuesday issued fresh orders for only 50% staff to report for work in both of its sectors 9 and 19 offices from Wednesday after TOI had highlighted how the carelessness of the education department had allegedly helped Covid-19 to spread.


Gill, who was recently given the charge, told TOI, “Instructions have been issued and offices sanitised. I have urged people to get themselves tested. We will take all the necessary precautions.”

The orders stated, “The office of director school and higher education situated in additional deluxe building, Sector 9, district education officer’s office situated in Sector 19 and RUSA office in Sector 42, shall start functioning with 50% staff.”


The orders further said, “Staff members who might be feeling unwell, should not attend offices and are advised to get themselves tested for Covid-19 from GMSH-16 or GMCH-32. Similarly, officials who were in close contact those who reported positive, are also advised to get themselves tested.”

The orders said Alka Mehta, deputy director, will also look after the work of district education officer till further order.
