Trinbao Knight Riders made it 11 out of 11 wins in CPL 2020 with a magnificent display against Jamaica Tallawahs in the first final at the Brian Lara stadium in Tarouba as they stormed into the final. In the second match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Zouks, the 2019 CPL finalists were humiliated for 55 as St Lucia Zouks booked a clash against the dominant Trinbago Knight Riders in the summit clash on Thursday.

In yet another day of low-scoring encounters in CPL 2020, Trinbago Knight Riders chose to bowl in the first semi-final and Akeal Hosein began with a wicket-maiden, removing Jermaine Blackwood in his first over. Jamaica Tallawahs sunk further when Kharry Pierre sent back Glenn Phillips and Hosein snapped up Mujeeb Zadran to leave the Jamaica Tallawahs reeling at 10/3. Hosein continued to decimate the Jamaica Tallawahs top order with the wicket of Asif Ali.

Nkrumah Bonner was the only batsman who looked comfortable and he steadied the innings along with Rovman Powell. Bonner neared his fifty but Fawad Ahmed took the wicket to dent the Jamaica Tallawahs even further. There was bit of controversy when Andre Russell was given out to Sunil Narine, with the batsman clearly unhappy that he did not edge it.

In the death overs, Carlos Brathwaite failed to get bat on ball and although he hit a last ball six, Jamaica Tallawahs managed just 107/7 in 20 overs. Trinbago Knight Riders lost Sunil Narine cheaply when he was cleaned up by Mujeeb Ur Rahman but Lendl Simmons showed his class and along with Tion Webster guided the Trinbago Knight Riders without any hassles.

Simmons and Webster found the boundary regularly and the team fifty came in the seventh over when Webster launched Sandeep Lamichhane over deep midwicket for a big six. Simmons smashed a six and a four off Russell and he neared his fifty with another six off the same bowler. Simmons notched up his fifty off 43 balls and Webster sealed the deal with two boundaries off Brathwaite to end the campaign for the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Guyana Amazon Warriors humiliated

In the second semi-final, the Guyana Amazon Warriors were bowled out for 55, the second-lowest total in the history of CPL as they were crushed by 10 wickets by the St Lucia Zouks. After Darren Sammy chose to bowl, Scott Kuggeleijn picked up the wickets of Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer in the first over. Guyana Amazon Warriors could not recover, with Chanderpaul Hemraj managing to hold on. Roston Chase, Zahir Khan, Mark Deyal and Mohammad Nabi all chipped in as Guyana Amazon Warriors lost five wickets for four runs to be bowled out for 55.

In response, Rahkeen Cornwall smashed two sixes in the first over bowled by Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Chris Green while Mark Deyal hit three boundaries off Imran Tahir. In the third over, Naveen-ul-Haq conceded five wides and both Cornwall and Deyal capitalized with a boundary and a six. Cornwall hit another six off Tahir and St Lucia Zouks achieved the target in just 4.3 overs. The combined match total of 18.1 overs was the lowest in the CPL and it was the seventh quickest chase in all men’s T20 matches.
