State records spike of 621 COVID cases

Panaji: The state’s tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases crossed the 22,000-mark, as 621 new cases of the dreaded virus were reported on Wednesday. The bulletin released by the directorate of health services said that 281 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

With this surge in cases and recoveries, the confirmed cases of COVID in Goa currently stands at 22,251 of which 4,833 are active while 17,156 patients have defeated the deadly virus.

The coronavirus pandemic also claimed six more lives in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 262.

On Wednesday, around 224 asymptomatic COVID patients opted for home isolation; so far, a total of 8,211 patients have chosen to isolate themselves at home.

According to the directorate of health services, the 4,833 active cases include eight people who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air.

A majority of the active cases fall under the jurisdiction of three health centres in the state – the urban health centre of Margao has 432 cases, the primary health centre of Ponda has 358 cases and the community health centre of Sankhali has 298 cases.

The other CHCs from where the cases have been emerging are: Bicholim (152), Pernem (202), Valpoi (171), Curchorem (86) and Canacona (89).

A significant number of active cases have also been reported under the jurisdiction of the UHCs at Mapusa (197), Panaji (243) and Vasco (265). COVID cases have also been surfacing from the jurisdiction of the PHCs at Aldona (122), Betki (151), Candolim (51), Cansarvanem (85), Colvale (119), Corlim (117), Chimbel (150), Siolim (139), Porvorim (296), Mayem (81),  Balli (68), Cansaulim (104), Chinchinim (39), Cortalim (139), Curtorim (67), Loutolim (91), Marcaim (66), Quepem (91), Sanguem (75), Shiroda (94), Dharbandora (100), and Navelim (87).
