Ghaziabad: A woman doctor at District Combined Hospital, which has been facing a shortage of medical staff, allegedly drew salaries for the past five months without showing up at the medical centre. Her husband, who is also a doctor posted at the hospital, has been accused of signing the attendance register on her behalf.
The matter was brought to district magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey’s notice during a recent meeting to review Covid preparedness. Taking cognisance of the matter, he ordered the city magistrate to conduct an inquiry into the allegations and also submit the attendance register in a sealed envelope. A letter has been sent to the chief medical officer and the hospital’s chief medical superintendent informing them about the inquiry.
Sources said after the 100-bed hospital was converted into an L2 Covid facility and several restrictions on movement were put in place, the attendance register was kept at the entry gate where doctors could sign it.
However, the system lacked proper monitoring.
The hospital’s chief medical superintendent, Dr Sanjay Teotia, confirmed the development, but added that he had taken charge two months ago. “The allegations are being looked into by a senior administrative official,” he said, adding that the woman doctor was shifted by the health department to the MMG District Hospital on non-Covid duty about two weeks ago.
