Two buses collided before one crashed into the front of an Argos store, police have said.
The vehicle mounted the pavement before hitting the front of the branch in Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham, shortly before 16:10 BST.
Several people were hurt, though none were thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.
The road has been closed to traffic as emergency services deal with the scene and investigations take place.
East Midlands Ambulance Service said its crews remained at the scene and it could not provide an exact number of casualties.
At least one passenger was seen being removed from a bus on a stretcher.
Nottingham City Transport said it was "supporting the emergency services as they respond to a collision involving two of our buses".
It added: "Our thoughts are with all of those involved and affected by the incident and we are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police as they investigate what has happened."
