GIMS to get six dialysis machines, one CT scan and one MRI

GREATER NOIDA: Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), an L2 Covid hospital in Greater Noida, has one dialysis machine for its Covid patients where around two-three dialysis procedures have been carried out so far. The hospital currently has 132 Covid patients. The hospital now plans to procure six dialysis machines, one CT scan and one MRI machine on PPP (public-private partnership) model.
The new equipment is part of the hospital’s expansion plans for its non Covid facilities. While the equipment will be procured in next three to six months and services provided at half the price of private diagnostic facilities, some of the dialysis machines may be deployed for Covid patients if required. The hospital currently has 132 Covid patients.
“We have one dialysis machine which we are using for treatment of Covid patients when required. So far about two-three patients have been given dialysis treatment at the hospital. We are procuring about six more machines now which will be under the PPE model. Tendering for the process will begin soon and we expect to get the machines in six months’ time,” said Brigadier (rtd) Dr RK Gupta director GIMS.
Even as Covid patients are given treatment for dialysis from the one machine at the hospital, Gupta maintained that for normal patients the dialysis facility will start in the next six months.
Similarly, the hospital will provide the facility of CT scan and MRI in next three to six months. While both these facilities will run on PPP models, they will be available for half the price of the market rate. “We are expanding towards better facilities even as we are treating Covid patients. And procuring these equipment is part of that plan where CT scan, MRI tests etc. will be done at Rs 1,400-1,500 which is 50% less of the market rate or private diagnostic facilities,” said Gupta.
Gupta adds that even as they have 132 patients in Covid care, the hospital has conducted one lakh Covid tests from April 15 (this includes multiple tests per person) when they began with 50 tests per day and increasing subsequently to 100, 200 to now on an average about 2,000 tests per day. “These include samples from other districts also such as Ghaziabad, Kasganj, Hapur, Firozabad etc.” he said.
The hospital is also monitoring its recovered Covid patients through three WhatsApp groups of 250 members per group, where constant feedback, monitoring and guidance is given to patients through consultation from doctors at the hospital.
