MANGALURU:
Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts reported 568 fresh cases of
coronavirus on Wednesday. DK accounted for 310 of these cases and Udupi the remaining 258. With this, the total positive cases in DK are 15762 and with 11986 discharges and 418 Covid-19 deaths, the active cases are 3102. Positive cases reported in Udupi on the other hand are 13345 and active cases with 11342 discharges stand at 1884 with 122 Covid-19 deaths.
Influenza like illness (171) constituted 55% of the total new cases reported in DK. Primary contacts (82), six had severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and source of infection that is being probed (46) added to the day's tally. In all, 64% of the cases (201) were symptomatic and rest were asymptomatic. Mangaluru taluk (188), Bantwal (27), Belthangady (26), Puttur and Sullia (25 each) and other districts (19) made up the tally.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said the district has tested 1.12-lakh samples as on date out of which 96,406 were found negative. The district health authorities discharged 256 patients on the day including 172 from home quarantine. Six more people succumbed to Covid19 with five of them from Mangaluru taluk and one patient from outside the district. All patients had comorbidities that hastened their end, Dr Rajendra noted.
In Udupi, the lone Covid19 death was in the form of a 64-year-old male from
Karkala taluk, DC G Jagadeesha said. Primary contacts (171) constituted 66% of reported cases, 49 had ILI, seven had SARI and source of infection in 31 is under investigation. In all, 144 patients were symptomatic. Udupi taluk reported most cases at 162. Authorities discharged 258 patients on the day. Thus far, 80804 samples have been tested in the district, DC noted.
