NOIDA: Water supply to high rise buildings located in 7X sectors of the city was hit yet again during the weekend.
In the last 48 hours, the crisis intensified as the supply was disrupted for the third time this month. On Saturday evening, the supply saw a 50% dip from the usual daily quota. However, the situation started normalising from Monday evening.
The problem occurred after a leakage in the Ganga water pipeline was reported at two places. The corroded pipeline burst in sectors 62 and 67 and affected the pressure through which water is supplied to the sectors. Since the borewell water supplied in Noida is ‘extremely hard’, diluting it with Ganga water at reservoirs is essential before it is supplied for to the households.
Deputy general manager of the water department at Noida Authority, RP Singh, said: “The entire portion of the pipeline has to be replaced before the supply is restored to normal. We are doing the work in batches and can operate only a single pipeline, at present. As a result, supply has gone down. But the work will be completed by Tuesday midnight.”
Earlier, creation of a loop for the pipeline around the Sector 70 underpass had disrupted supply. The problem is acute in complexes that house a higher number of families.
General secretary of Noida Federation of Apartment Owners Association, Rajesh Sahay, said: “Regular complaints are surfacing on our internal groups. JM Aroma, Hyde Park, and Antariksh Golf View seem to be hit the worst. Some associations are also thinking of getting water tankers to meet the daily demand if the prob-lem persists.”
