Mompreneur: How Corporate Women Are Managing Their Work-Life Balance

The juggle for women entrepreneurs is real but the challenges increase manifold if they are married. While the discussion on equality stays within the corporate circle in letter, climbing up the corporate ladder, and balancing time between family and making time for children is not an easy task.

The constant fear of asserting ourselves looms over the mind as there is an apprehension of retaliation from the boss if even a feeble attempt is made to say no in order to maintain work-life balance.

It gets excruciating to balance between managing home and travelling for organisational needs. The other barrier to women’s advancement in corporate is an inhospitable corporate culture.

Despite the undercurrent of inhospitable culture sensed by women there is an organisational change that has begun to realise the importance of equality and the need of them balancing the professional and personal lives.

The guilt of not being able to devote equal time to family impedes the professional front as well.

So, there is no harm in sorting out the priorities on the professional and personal front. Your child needs equal attention as your company, so the art of saying ‘No’ to the things that cross the path of the set priorities takes a long way. Though sacrifices are bound to be made, compromises for balanced life would be worth taking a step in the direction.  

While the professional front does take a major chunk of time the set boundaries for working mothers should never be encroached. It is not wrong to divide the work with a spouse and seek help from coworkers, especially at a time when the child deserves attention.

The nurturing of relationships with spouse and child is as important as clinging on to the ladder of success. It is therefore imperative to often reinforce the boundary.

Though not fully evolved, there is a change in the mindset, where a spouse understands the different work culture and doesn't mind sharing the household chores. One of the common issues that is heard is burnout, which is why it is important to take a break from work and spend time with the family.

The stress caused by a variety of things, but often the reason for married corporate women, could be the absence of no work-life balance.

Not only the career, happiness should be chased. If work life balance can get us that it is worth chasing.
