Tamil Nadu assembly speaker P Dhanapal
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu assembly will meet for three days at Kalaivanar Arangam starting September 14.
The decision was taken at a business advisory committee meeting led by Speaker P Dhanapal at the secretariat on Tuesday.
“Condolence resolutions and obituary references will be made at the commencement of the meeting of the House,” the Speaker told reporters. Condolence resolutions will be passed for former President Pranab Mukherjee, former MLA J Anbazhagan, former MP H Vasanthakumar and for all people who died of Covid-19. The House will be adjourned as a mark of respect to the deceased.
Dhanapal said the presentation of first supplementary estimates for the year 2020-21 and introduction and passing of bills will be taken up on the last day.
The state government has made elaborate arrangements in the multi-purpose hall of Kalaivanar Arangam in view of Covid-19. Dhanapal said that compulsory Covid-19 testing will have to be done for MLAs, staff, marshals, officials and mediapersons, 72 hours prior to the session. Covid-19 test will be done on the assembly campus and at MLAs hostel.
Earlier, DMK leader S Durai Murugan criticised the government for not heeding to the demands of the opposition to hold the session for seven days to discuss the three-language formula proposed by the National Education Policy of the Centre, imposition of Hindi and northeast monsoon preparedness.
“The Covid-19 cases are on the rise every day, so also the deaths. There are complaints of improper treatment and private hospitals fleecing the people. We have to speak about all these problems,” he said.
