A tanker with 1,100 litres of stolen fuel has been seized along with a generator, drilling instruments and a Santro car.
The gang is accused of pilfering at least one lakh litre of fuel from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in recent times.
The arrested men have been identified as Sanjay Dhawan, Mukesh, Samay Pal, Avlesh, Himanshu and Sanjay.
The crime branch had received many tip-offs regardo a gang stealing fuel after which a special task force team led by ACP Pankaj and inspector Digvijay was formed to investigate," said Bhisham Singh, DCP (crime branch).
The team started developing intelligence and received information that members of a gang involved in this crime were coming to Nihal Vihar to sell the fuel. The team laid a trap on the Mundka–Nihal Vihar Road and spotted a tanker and Santro car moving together. They followed the tanker to a godown and the conducted a raid while the fuel was being unloaded.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had identified vulnerable locations from where the fuel could be stolen with ease. These locations had an easy passage for a truck and was surrounded by crops that provided them with cover during thefts.
"They first dug a hole right above the spot selected for stealing the fuel. A valve was fitted on the underground pipeline using a clamp. A hand held drill was used to make a hole in the pipeline through the valve. A long pipe was used to transfer the oil to a tanker using the pressure in the pipeline," DCP Singh said.
The spot was then covered with soil and mud even as they fled with the oil with ease.
They used to sell the oil at various places in Delhi to select distributors who further sold it in retail illegally as Kerosene. The accused have revealed several locations in west Delhi, Mathura, Sonipat and other areas selected by them to steal the oil.
