94-year-old dies after fall from 15th floor

Gurgaon: A 94-year-old retired school teacher died after allegedly falling from her 15th floor flat’s balcony in Central Park Society on Monday morning. The woman was facing multiple health issues, no case has been registered.
The woman — Urmila Advani — was residing with her son—Anil, daughter-in-law and granddaughter for the past several years. Her husband passed away two years back. On Monday morning, Anil went out for a walk, while the other members of the family were sleeping. Around 6am, the security guard of the society heard a loud thud and on reaching the spot, found Urmila lying in a pool of blood, police said.
The guard informed the family members who then made a PCR call. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead.
According to police, a note was found in the woman’s room in which she had written about her bad health. “The woman in her note mentioned that she is not keeping well and even faces problems in walking. She also wrote that she didn’t want to live with such health conditions,” an officer said.
Inspector Dinesh Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Sadar police station said, “Prima facie it looks like suicide. Family has not filed any complaint. We recorded their statement and the body was handed over to them after postmortem.”
This is not the first time that a senior citizen, suffering from medical issues has ended his or her life. In January, a 65-year-old woman, allegedly jumped from her sixth floor flat balcony of an upscale residential society in sector 109 and committed suicide. Her family members had said that she was depressed following her ongoing ailments.
In August 2019, a 50-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of her 18th floor apartment in an upscale condominium in Sector 90 on Dwarka Expressway. The woman was identified as Gurmeet Kaur and she had moved into the rented flat in June after being separated from her husband – Iqbal Singh, who runs a hardware shop in Old Gurgaon.
In May 2019, a senior citizen and retired employee of Tata Steel had allegedly jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a residential apartment in Sector 56. The deceased in his suicide note accused a relative of not repaying Rs 10 lakh that was given to him as loan and also requested him to pay the money to his kids after his death. He was identified as Rajeshwar Prasad (80) from Bihar’s Jamalpur village.
