Xbox Series S is real and it has an official price. Microsoft's Xbox has announced its long-rumoured affordable gaming console is indeed Series S and it will cost $299 (roughly Rs 22,000), which seems attractive considering the company is targeting PlayStation 5 with its next-generation consoles. But this announcement seems impromptu. Earlier in the day, a few leaked posters revealed the price of Xbox Series X and before that leak could take away the surprise element from Microsoft more than it already did, the company went ahead to not only reveal the price but also what the Xbox Series S could look like.
On Twitter, Xbox desperately said "Let's make it official" while announcing the price of the Xbox Series S. It also wrote that this is going to be the smallest Xbox ever, which could be a well-educated jibe at the PlayStation 5, the design of which has birthed some amusing memes on the internet. Anyway, Microsoft is using an example to explain how small the Xbox Series S is. It says the console can fit inside the Xbox Series X console that is expected to arrive sometime in November alongside the Series S. But apart from the size, there are going to be other significant differences between the Series X and Series S consoles.
The tweet also shows the design of the Xbox Series S. While the console is identical to a portable speaker with the circular grille in black, the controller looks more like the one you got with the Xbox One S. The 'X' power button is still there and the controller can now sit flush with the table level. The Series S is said to offer up to 1440p resolution for gaming, unlike Series X that is said to support 4K gaming with high refresh rates. It is also expected to have around 7.5GB of usable RAM for games and other apps.
Microsoft has said it is looking forward to sharing more on the Xbox Series S gaming console but I am not sure when that will be. Information such as the launch date, the features, and the details of the Xbox Ultimate Pass, which is believed to be one of the selling points, remain unknown. Microsoft's future announcement might cover those things, apart from the details on already official Xbox Series X gaming console.
