Uttar Pradesh government has reportedly signed an MoU with the Indian Industries Association (IIA) to provide jobs in MSME sector for 3 lakh migrant workers who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic. A similar MoU was signed with Laghu Udyog Bharati for 1.5 lakh jobs. Around 30 lakh migrant workers returned to the state during pandemic out of which 20 lakh are unskilled workers. Others who have returned have experience in sectors like hospitality, construction, agriculture and more. Sources claim that generating employment for all migrant workers will take longer than a year for UP government, however, it is an achievable target.
