Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Death toll crosses 8,000-mark

CHENNAI: Covid-19 death toll in Tamil Nadu crossed the 8,000-mark on Tuesday to reach to 8,012. The state registered 87 deaths and 5,684 fresh cases on Tuesday.
The case tally reached 4,74,940. As many as 50,213 people are still under treatment for the viral infection.
Chennai, the worst affected district, reported 988 cases and 18 deaths.
Chennai’s neighbours Chengalpet (364), Kancheepuram (122) and Tiruvallur (277) together reported 763 cases and 12 deaths.
The seven other northern districts together reported 1,231 cases and 22 deaths.
Cases in Cuddalore soared to 407.
The western zone reported the second highest number of fresh cases. Together, the eight western districts reported 1,185 cases.
After Chennai, the highest number of cases was reported in Coimbatore (446).
The 10 southern districts reported 16 deaths and 849 new cases.
In the central zone, Tiruvarur (198), Thanjavur (198) and Pudukottai (116) reported the highest number of cases while Nagapattinam (21) and Perambur (15) had the lowest.
