Serena Williams is on a mission to win Grand Slam No.24 at US Open 2020. A win in the US Open will put her level with Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam titles by a women player in history. She won the quarterfinal encounter against Maria Sakkari in a tough-three set encounter. However, a video has recently emerged where Serena had plenty of inspiration at courtside, with her three-year-old daughter Olympia and her partner Alexis Ohanian Sr. in attendance. The US Open’s official Twitter and Alexis Ohanian’s Instagram handles carried a short clip of Olympia playing cheerleader to Serena when she was taking a short break.

In the video, when Serena Williams is having a drinks break, Olympia sees her on the big screen and she cutely shouts “Mumma”. She then points at Serena and then Serena waves at her happily. There were limited number of people at Arthur Ashe stadium due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After the end of the match, Serena acknowledged the cheers from her daughter Olympia when she said, “I forgot that she was coming out. I hope she saw her mumma fighting,” Serena said. The 23-time Grand Slam champion then says, “Hi baby”. But she turned back to the interview and said, “I don’t think she was paying that much attention. She may have been playing with some princesses upstairs.”

Serena achieves unique century

Serena cruised into the quarterfinals of the US Open after securing a win over Maria Sakkari. Williams registered a 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 victory over No.15 seed to advance in the competition. It took Williams two hours 29 minutes to secure a last-eight matchup against Tsvetana Pironkova, who overcame Alize Cornet, with the six-time winner extending her record to 105 wins to just 13 losses at major play at Flushing Meadows.

This was Serena’s 100th win on Arthur Ashe, becoming the only player to reach the number, and also, a 53rd Grand Slam quarter. Earlier, in the tournament, Serena had broken the record for most singles wins (102) in the history of the US Open. She had achieved the feat after winning her first-round match of US Open 2020. Williams will take on Pironkova on Wednesday.
