CHENNAI: A CRPF deputy commandant shot himself dead with his service rifle at Karayanchavadi on the outskirts of Chennai on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Srijan, 50, attached to the 77th battalion of the CRPF.
Srijan reached his office on Tuesday morning. On hearing a gunshot, his colleagues rushed to his office and found him lying in a pool of blood.
On being informed, a team from the Poonamallee police station reached the spot. The police sent Srijan to a private hospital in Porur, where doctors examined him and declared him “dead on arrival.”
The body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital for postmortem.
In his suicide note, Srijan wrote: ‘Nobody is directly or indirectly responsible for my suicide.’
He requested his colleagues to cremate his body in Chennai.
Srijan, a native of Kerala, lived with his wife at Kattupakkam near Poonamallee.
The Poonamallee police registered a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the CrPC.
