Man arrested for raping 70-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu

MADURAI: A 37-year-old man was arrested in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Monday night for sexually assaulting a 70-year-old woman under the influence of alcohol.
The accused has been identified as V Karthipandi, 37, of Kumaranadi village near Thirukanai.
According to police, Karthipandi was a construction worker. His wife was at her parents’ place for delivery.
The accused consumed liquor on Thursday evening and returned to his house in an inebriated condition. He barged into the woman’s house. She was alone at home.
The incident came to light on Monday evening after the woman alerted local police with the help of her relatives.
The Othakadai police conducted an inquiry, registered a case and arrested Karthipandi. He was booked under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the IPC.
A police officer said that the woman’s health condition was stable.
