The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group met through video conferencing on Tuesday for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The meeting was chaired by Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the party. In the meeting of senior party leaders, it was decided that a candidate will be fielded by the opposition for the election of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
According to the sources, the digital meeting of the strategic group led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi also decided that the UPA constituents and like-minded parties would be taken along to field the opposition candidate for the election of Deputy Chairman. Will be attempted
Sources said that a decision will be taken after deliberating with the allies about which party will be the candidate and who will be there. The meeting was attended by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, party leaders in both houses, and some other senior leaders.
Significantly, elections for the post of Deputy Chairman in Rajya Sabha will be held on September 14. The monsoon session of Parliament will begin from this day. The post has become vacant after the term of JDU Rajya Sabha member Harivansh Narayan Singh ends in the Upper House. Harivansh is again elected a member of the Rajya Sabha.
