Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer Satish Maneshinde on Tuesday spoke about his client's arrest by the Narcotics Central Bureau (NCB) and called it a "travesty of justice". According to Zee News, during a media byte, Satish Maneshinde said, "3 Central Agencies were hounding a single woman just because she was in love with a drug addict and was suffering from mental health issues for several years under the care of 5 leading psychiatrists in Mumbai, who ended up committing suicide due to consumption of illegally administered medicines and used drugs."
Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by NCB on charges of drug procurement and consumption. Earlier, Rhea confessed before the National Crime Bureau (NCB) that she used to smoke cigarettes filled with marijuana (ganja) with her actor boyfriend.
According to a report in Zee News, during the investigation, Rhea told the NCB that she used to smoke drug-filled cigarettes with late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea also claimed during interrogation that Sushant was consuming drugs since 2016.
Her lawyer Satish Maneshinde said in a statement issued on Sunday that, "Rhea Chakraborty is ready for arrest as this is a Witch Hunt and if loving someone is a crime she will face the consequences of her love."
"Being innocent, she has not approached any court for Anticipatory Bail in all the cases foisted by Bihar Police now with CBI, ED, and NCB," he had added.
Earlier, a case had been registered against Rajput's sister Priyanka Singh, Dr Tarun Kumar, Delhi, and others under various sections of IPC and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bandra Police Station in Mumbai.
The complaint stated that Priyanka had sent Sushant a prescription by Dr Tarun Kumar and he "appears to have prescribed medication controlled under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 to Sushant without any consultation as mandated by law."
Now, the case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as per the orders by the Supreme Court, according to the Mumbai Police on Tuesday.
