Kolkata: Youth ends life as ‘girlfriend returns gift’

KOLKATA: A 19-year-old youth, residing at Niranjan Pally in Regent Park, allegedly committed suicide after his girlfriend returned the gift that he had purchased for her. The incident was reported around 8.45am on Sunday. The victim reportedly hanged himself from the ceiling fan with a white cloth. “We had not found any injury mark, except ligature mark, that confirms suicide,” said DC (South Suburban) Biswajit Ghosh.
“We have noted the statements of his family members and neighbours. They told the police that the victim was working in a shoe shop at Kudghat. He was in a relationship with a 16-year-old girl. Cops have come to know that the youth had a mental trauma after his girlfriend refused to accept the gift on Saturday,” a police officer. The youth was rushed to SSKM Hospital where he was declared brought dead. However, cops said that no complaint has been lodged regarding his death.
