A 35-year-old-woman was forced to deliver on the roadside in J&K’s Samba district on Sunday after a government hospital turned her away for not having a Covid-19 test report. The woman, identified as Leelam — wife of Davinder Kumar of Bihar and a resident of SIDCO Phase-I area — was brought to the facility in the morning on experiencing mild labour pain. The hospital staff, however, denied her admission demanding a coronavirus test report, claimed her kin. “The staff referred her to Jammu instead. They did not even arrange for an ambulance,” Davinder alleged. Just as the family exited the premises, Leelam experienced severe labour pain. With help from some local women and a female relative, she gave birth to a girl outside a chemist shop on the roadside. “As soon as the news circulated on social media, the hospital staff rushed to the spot with an ambulance and shifted the woman along with the newborn to the hospital,” a source said. Both mother and child are stable and healthy.
