Trials of BCG, Plasma, and Chyawanprash at KGMU have shown positive results. While the effect of coronavirus has reduced on the health workers involved in the trial of BCG, plasma therapy is also saving the lives of patients.
This has excited the team of doctors, experts. The evaluation of trial results has started. However, people involved in the trial will be monitored for three months.
The first trial of plasma therapy at KGMU began on 26 April. KGMU, which conducted the only trial in the state, tried 12 people under the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Sources reveal that more than 50 percent benefited from this. After this, about 50 people were given plasma therapy, of which 41 have been saved.
In view of the positive results of the trial, the ICMR and the Ministry of Health have directed all medical institutions and medical colleges to give plasma therapy. So far 21 patients have been given therapy at PGI, of which 17 have been cured. Therapy has been given to 10 patients at Lohia Institute.
The effect of the virus is less in those taking the BCG vaccine
The trial of Bacillus Calumet Guérin (BCG) began in May at KGMU. It covered 170 people in three months. The first group consisted of direct contactors, the second low-contact groups, and the third group-housed health workers. Sources reveal that the trial has yielded positive results.
Some people with direct contact have been affected by the virus, but more than 60 percent have not been affected. Similarly, the effect of the virus on the second and third groups was also found to be 15 to 20 percent. Currently, the trial results are being evaluated in detail. If the patients involved in the trial do not come positive for three months, then the BCG vaccine is believed to be very effective in preventing the virus.
Dr. D Himanshu, the nodal in-charge of KGMU's infectious diseases unit, says that all that can be said right now is that the results are positive and are good signs for the future. All aspects of the trial are being evaluated and sent to the Drug Controller General of India.
Those taking Chyawanprash did not become ill
The trial of Aayush 64 and Chyawanprash at KGMU took place from June to August. It has been prepared by the Institute of Ayurveda. Under this, 100 employees were given Chyawanprash and Aayush 64 medicines, and 100 were not given. The immunity of medicine and Chyawanprash was eaten and tested.
The trial conducted by the Ministry of AYUSH has yielded positive results. It was found that those taking Chyawanprash did not become ill. Trial Investigator Dr. AK Sonkar said that the results were better. Their evaluation has been started.
