Punjab cops reach opioids worth Rs 15 crore in Delhi

The accused with the drugs
BARNALA: Barnala police seized 2.88 crore habit-forming drugs worth Rs 15 crore from a godown in New Delhi on the information provided by Gaurav Arora, who was arrested last month.
“This is the first time that we reached the source of illicit pharma opioids after establishing backward and forward linkages and have affected the biggest ever seizure of pharma opioids in Punjab,” said Barnala senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Goel and assistant superintendent (ASP) Pragya Jain.
On August 27, a Barnala police team led by ASP Jain had arrested Krishan Kumar Arora and his son Gaurav Arora of Neutec Healthcare, Delhi. They were manufacturing and supplying different types of pharmaceutical opioids across 17 states of the country every month through various drug suppliers.
Investigations revealed their clandestine manufacturing of pharma drugs over and above the sanctioned quota. The duo had created wholesale/retail pharmaceutical firms in connivance with associates to divert pharmaceutical opioids into illegal drug by falsely reflecting their sale and purchase.
In most cases, these drug consignments were delivered without bill at various locations and transporters were paid three to four times more than the normal rates as compensation. The pharmaceutical opioids, which are mostly used for pain relief and medical treatment for opioid dependence, were being diverted for intoxication and drug abuse.
