This includes a reserve sub inspector from Thane police headquarters, an assistant sub inspector and constable from Nagpur, and constables from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Satara, Nagpur Rural, Pune Rural and Kolhapur.
A total of 511 personnel tested positive on Saturday, which is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day from among the force. The state force tally stood at 16,912 on Saturday, of which 13,719 have recovered.
Thane's RSI Baba Dadas (48) breathed his last at a Kamothe hospital on Sunday. He had comorbidities and had been admitted on August 30. Dadas had been suffering from hypertension for the last three years. He tested positive on September 1. Dadas is survived by his wife, who has asthma, and two sons.
Constable Maruti Aachare (57), attached to Mumbai police (special branch I) died on Friday. He was admitted to a Thane hospital on August 16. Aachare had comorbidities but was recovering. He removed his oxygen pipe and his condition worsened, said an officer. With Achare's death, the Mumbai police force toll touched 70.
Panvel traffic constable Sandesh Gaikwad (40) died on Friday-four days after testing positive, taking the Navi Mumbai police force toll to four. He is survived by his wife, daughter (8) and son (6).
