Everything to know about Dyson Corrale, the straightener that will be on everyone's feeds soon

Straightening hair, especially when you’re looking for a sleek finish, is difficult. But with the right tool, you may just be able to iron out the difficulties with your defiant mane

It took seven years for Dyson’s engineers to create its first hair straightener, Corrale. Does it mean a total upgrade from the way we’ve been using hair straighteners? Sandra Lup, Dyson’s design engineer, takes us through the elements the company has enhanced and eliminated in the process.

Keep: Thin manganese copper alloy plates for flexibility and even heat distribution. “They’re tourmaline edged to produce ionising properties that help reduce static,” says Lup.

Delete: Ceramic and titanium plates, which warm up quickly but can lead to uneven heat and tension levels.

Keep: Flexing plates that don’t let hair branch across. “They are precision machined to the width of the human hair to provide the right amount of tension needed,” says Lup.

Delete: Solid flat plates that provide limited control and, in order to compensate for the lack of this, use excess heat.

Keep: Multiple temperature settings. “This has three—165°C, 185°C and 210°C—and the integrated sensor system regulates the temperature of the plates 100 times a second so it never overheats,” says Lup.

Delete: Straighteners with just one heat setting, as different hair types and styles have varying needs.

Calling in the big guns

Dyson’s global styling ambassador Jon Reyman solves all your straightening issues

Problem: Frizz

Prep first. For medium to coarse hair, use a medium-hold cream, for fine to medium hair, opt for a light-hold product. “To combat static after straightening, use a hairspray or light finishing cream to tame flyaways,” he says.

Problem: Lifeless strands

“Over-straightening happens when you use too much heat or you don’t use enough heat in the first place,” says Reyman. Go over each section just once instead of many times poorly.

Problem: Time

You’re taking forever to straighten. “I often start with the hair in the back, working methodically in sections and clipping the hair I haven’t worked on yet until I reach the front,” says Reyman.

Dyson Corrale Straightener™️ is priced at INR 36,900/- and is available in India on Dyson.in, across the six Dyson Demo in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai; and to other cities through direct-to-home.
