PATIALA: The police in Patiala on Monday evening booked Bains brothers including Lok Insaaf Party president and MLA Simranjit Singh Bains and his brother MLA Balwinder Singh Bains and over 300 other party workers for violating Covid norms and causing instructions in the duty of government employees and officials. Both the legislators have protested against the state government in Patiala on Monday over their demand to suspend cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot over his alleged involvement in Scholarship scam.
The Bains brothers along with their supporters were cane charged by the police on Monday evening while taking out a protest march against the minister. The legislators had gathered at Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib in Patiala and then at Polo ground where the police had already cordoned off the area and did not allow the protestors to move on.
The police said that scuffle between the protestors and the police took place following which they were cane charged mildly by the police to disperse them off. The police claimed that the protestors were warned and requested not to violate the Covid guidelines but they did not paid any heed and instead attacked the cops on duty and the senior cops and duty magistrate present at the spot.
SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said that a case under section 353, 354,332,186,188,149,269,270 of IPC and section 51 of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Section 3 of Epidemic Disease (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 has been registered at Civil Line Police Station Patiala, against both the legislators and over 300 unidentified supporters. He said that no arrests were made so far.
He further said that the accused nominated in this case included legislators Simranjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains and their supporters including Navdeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Preetinder Singh, Manvinder Singh, Jagjodh Singh, Preetinder Singh, Manjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Phulpreet Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Randhir Singh, Gurmit Singh, Rajinder Singh Khaira, Bhim Singh, Jagjodh Singh, Laxman Singh, Amarjit Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Amrik Singh Khalsa and 300 unknown persons.
He said that a call was given by Lok Insaaf party to gather at PUDA ground Patiala to protest against Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and to take out a protest march in the city and around 1500 persons reached PUDA ground under both Bains brothers in around 70 to 80 buses and in large numbers of four wheelers.
The SSP said that in this attack Sub-Inspector Balwan Singh along with four other police officials including two lady Constables got injured and hospitalized in Rajindra Hospital Patiala and were discharged later on. He said that after all the efforts failed to stop the violent protesters, a light force was used to maintain Law and order and to disperse the protesters, after taking due orders from the duty magistrate.
