New Delhi/ Mumbai:

Kangana Ranaut will be provided Y-Plus category security, government sources said today in the middle of a huge row over the actor's comments comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Kangana Ranaut will be protected by a Personal Security Officer and 11 armed policemen including commandos, sources in the Home Ministry said. News agency PTI said the decision had been taken because of a "renewed threat to the actor after she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput".

The "Queen" actor tweeted thanking Home Minister Amit Shah. "This proves that a patriot's voice cannot be crushed by. I am grateful to Amit Shah, if he wanted, he could have advised me to go to Mumbai after a few days but he respected a daughter of India, protected her pride and self-respect. Jai Hind," she tweeted in Hindi.

The 33-year-old actor has faced sharp attacks from Maharashtra's ruling Shiv Sena over her comments on the handling of the Sushant Singh Rajput case. She has been at the forefront of the "Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput" campaign after the actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.

Ms Ranaut, currently based in her native Himachal Pradesh, had sharply criticised the Mumbai Police probe and had said under the current Sena-led government, she feared living in Mumbai. The comment led to a severe backlash from the Shiv Sena with its leaders saying she should stay away from Mumbai.

The outspoken actor accused Sena leaders like Sanjay Raut of threatening her and remarked "why is Mumbai feeling like Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir". Her comments escalated the fight and provoked controversial statements from Sena leaders who demanded her apology.

Sena MLA Pratap Saranik said the actor should be arrested for sedition and that "if she comes here then our brave women will not leave without slapping her".

Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha member of the Sena, was caught on camera using a slur. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of NCP said she should "not return to Mumbai if she feels unsafe".

Ms Ranaut, who has been targeting the film fraternity over alleged nepotism, bullying of newcomers and rivalries - which she believes had a role in Sushant Singh Rajput's death -- dropped a bombshell last week as she accused prominent actors of drug use and named a few in her post. This is not the first time she has taken on Bollywood insiders.
