NOIDA: Following the murder of Akshay Kalra from Stellar Park Society in sector 62 and increasing incidents of chain and mobile snatching, an online video meeting of district RWA body was held on Sunday where residents demanded the restart of RWA-police meetings that were planned prior to Covid outbreak, increased police patrolling and police verification of drivers, maids, gardeners and tenants especially in villages adjacent to residential sectors and restrict movement of scrap vendors on weekdays who often leak information on residents of the sectors. Residents also demanded CCTV surveillance at all major intersections of the city.
“Today, a video meeting of many RWAs of the district was held where we raised the issue of alarming law and order situation in the city. A resident Akshay Kalra of Stellar Park Society recently lost his life during his carjacking incident. Even as the bereaved family is still dealing with his loss, the residents maintained that despite the commissionerate system implemented in the district, such incidents are not decreasing and it is a matter of great concern,” said NP Singh president District Development Residents Welfare Associations (DDRWA).
While Sher Singh Bhati general secretary DDRWA maintained that people should be made aware of crime and be alert on the situation, Sushil Aggarwal senior founder member added that the global pandemic of Covid 19 has created unforeseen situations where many people have lost jobs or committed suicides due to the economic downturn. “Many are turning towards crime in the absence of jobs, food and lodging,” said another member, adding that the spirits of the criminals are high these days leading to an increasing graph in the crime rate in the district.
Members therefore demanded that law and order should be strictly enforced in the city, the meeting between sector RWAs and local police stations should re-start, and responsibility of the police department should be fixed along with increased police posts.
Also, members opined that the police department should have a list of senior citizens living alone in residential sectors and periodic checks should be done on them. Others present in the meeting include AN Dhawan chief advisor, Suresh Krishna secretary, Rajendra Shukla senior vice president, Anil Khanna joint secretary DDRWA and more.
