Ashish Reddy, DCF, Kundapur division told TOI that according to the preliminary investigation the carcasses were dumped in a bag. The forest officials inspected the spot, and the dog squad of the district police were also pressed into action.
He said the samples were collected and sent to the laboratory in Mangaluru. The exact cause of death would be revealed only after the post-mortem report is available. The investigation is in progress. “We suspect that the incident may have taken place about two days ago. The department is also looking into similar cases reported elsewhere to understand the modus operandi. Malfeasance is suspected, he added.
Meanwhile, locals said that the monkeys may have been killed at a different location and then dumped in the village and fear that they were poisoned.
