HYDERABAD: Over five months after they were suspended due to the
Covid-19 pandemic, metro rail services have resumed in the city with
protective measures against.
The services began at 7am on the 29-km-long Red Line (Corridor I) between LB Nagar and
Miyapur as per the Centre’s guidelines. There was not much rush during the first couple of hours of resumption of the services, but commuters said they were happy to be travelling in metro again.
Supraja Chowdhary, a commuter at Miyapur Metro Station, said, “I am really happy to be travelling in the metro again. It is a huge relief. Since there is no rush and authorities ensure only a limited number of people travel in the trains, it has become much easier than pre-Covid days. People are also responsibly following all safety measures.”
TOI’s visit to Miyapur station revealed that only asymptomatic people are being allowed to board trains and stations. Extra security staff has been deployed to ensure commuters follow all the norms for safe travel. People are allowed to enter stations only after sanitising their hands and getting their temperatures checked.
