JAIPUR: The state election commission (SEC) in Rajasthan on Monday announced the elections to the posts of remaining 3,848 sarpanches and 35,968 ward panches which will be held in four phases, starting from September 28 and ending on October 10. The model code of conduct comes into effect with the announcement of the elections. The polling will be held in compliance with the Covid guidelines issued by the central and state governments.
The elections to the posts of 1,003 sarpanches will be held in the first phase scheduled to be held on September 28 (Monday). 1028 sarpanches will be elected in the second phase, scheduled to be held on October 3 (Saturday). In the third phase, to be conducted on October 6 (Tuesday), 943 sarpanches will be elected and in the fourth phase, scheduled to be held on October 10 (Saturday), 874 sarpanches will be elected in the state.
The elections will be held from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. The counting of votes will be held on the same day of election in all the four phases. According to the schedule released by the SEC, the filing of nomination papers will be held on September 9 in the first phase, September 23 in the second phase, September 26 in the third phase and September 30 in the fourth phase.
The elections to the posts of Up-sarpanches will be held on September 29 (first phase), October 4 (second phase), October 7 (third phase) and October 11 (fourth phase).
The elections to the posts of sarpanches will be conducted by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMS) and that of ward panches will be conducted with ballot papers/boxes. Over 1.28 crore voters will participate in the polls, as per the SEC data. Of the total, 67.07 lakh are male voters and 61.15 are female voters. There are 74 third gender voters.
The elections to 7,463 gram panchayats were completed in the month of January and March this year.
