The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday accorded Y+ category security to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut after she expressed threat to her life as she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The development also comes in the wake of spat between Ranaut and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut after the actress compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).
Taking to Twitter, the actor referred to the report on the Centre’s decision and said: “This shows that no one can crush a patriot in the country. I am thankful to Home Minister Amit Shah. Had he wanted, he would have told me to visit Mumbai later but he respected India’s daughter and acknowledged my self-respect. Jai Hind.”

Sources in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said the order has not yet reached any of the two forces tasked with providing security to VIPs. However, sources in the MHA said a decision has been taken and necessary orders will reach the CRPF in due course.
According to a source, under the Y+ category, Ranaut is entitled to two armed security personnel for her mobile security while one security personnel will guard her residence. The “Queen” actor is currently residing in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.
The Home Department will also spell out in its order whether Ranaut’s security will be valid across the country or be limited to Maharashtra. “A threat assessment has been made by intelligence agencies and it has been concluded that there is threat to her life and accordingly, security is being provided,” a home ministry official said.
In the past few weeks, Ranaut has been at the forefront of attacking several Bollywood elites and the Maharashtra administration over the death of Rajput.
A few days back, Ranaut tweeted: “Why is Mumbai feeling like Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir?” She also tagged a September 1 news report where Raut purportedly said she should not come back to Mumbai if she was afraid of the city police.
Reacting to the statement, Shiv Sena leader used a pejorative for the actress, suggesting she was ungrateful for what the city and the state had given her.
Asked if he would apologise for his remark against Ranaut, Raut told reporters that “anybody who lives and works here and speaks ill of Mumbai, Maharashtra and Marathi people, I would say apologise first”.
The Rajya Sabha member on Friday urged the Maharashtra government to take against people defaming the city police. He also asked Ranaut to tour the PoK first to get a sense of the prevailing situation there.
Following this, Ranaut launched a fresh attack on Raut through a video statement on Twitter. “Mr Sanjay Raut, you called me ‘haramkhor ladki’. You are a public servant. You know how many girls are raped every day in the country, how many of them are tortured and killed – sometimes by their own husbands. And you know who is responsible for all this? It is this mindset you have very shamelessly displayed. You have empowered those exploiters. The daughters of this country will never forgive you,” she said.
Ranaut also said she will return to Mumbai on September 9, and was not afraid of the threats made against her. “Your people are threatening to kill me. Yes, go ahead. Because the soil of this country is watered by such blood, so many people have lost their lives for the dignity of this country. We will also sacrifice our lives because we have to pay our debt. So let’s meet on 9th September. Jai Hind. Jai Maharashtra.”
