Greater Noida: Three persons were booked on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a 68-year-old retired official of the chemical and fertiliser ministry on September 2. Police said the main accused in the case, Amit, has been detained.
The victim, Narendra Nath Ahuja, a retired section officer who lives in Sector Alpha 2 had accused his tenant, Amit, of robbing and holding him hostage in his car to escape from paying the rent. He was recovered from Kakod area in Bulandshahr the same day. However, the incident was revealed on Friday after Nath regained consciousness and told about the incident to his family.
According to his family, Bulandshahr police informed them that some villagers spotted Narendra lying unconscious in a farm in Hirnauti village of Kakod on September 2. He was rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was taken to Kailash Hospital in Noida where he gained consciousness.
His son, Sumiy Ahuja, told TOI that the tenant had not paid rent for the past few months. On Friday, he called Narendra and asked if he was coming to collect the rent. “My father went there but the accused made him take a detour and after a while some of his accomplices intercepted him in Sector Beta 2 and hijacked the car at gunpoint,” he said, adding that the accused then took him to Kakod where they robbed him of all the cash and made him drink some sedatives.
Sumiy further said the accused were strangling his father in the farm, but when they were spotted by a few locals, they fled. The locals then later informed Kakod police and helped identify his car that was found at a little distance.
Narendra’s family had complained about the crime on Friday, however, Noida police initially called the incident suspicious and registered the FIR only on Sunday.
Vishal Pandey, the additional DCP of zone 3 said, “Following the complaint, an investigation was done in which the tenant’s role was found suspicious. We have detained him while we are searching for his other accomplices,” he said. Meanwhile, all three have been booked under IPC sections 364 (kidnapping for ransom), 394 (causing hurt while committing robbery) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison).
“We are making efforts to arrest the other accused. The case will be worked out soon,” he added.
