Actress Rhea Chakraborty was on Sunday questioned for about six hours by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drugs case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Her brother Showik, along with seven others, have already been arrested for offences related to cannabis.

Escorted by police personnel, the 28-year-old arrived at the agency’s office in the Ballard Estate area in Mumbai this afternoon.

NCB Deputy Director General (south-west region) Mutha Ashok Jain told reporters that Rhea would be called again on Monday for questioning and recording of her statement. He said the agency also conducted fresh raids in this case against a man identified as Anuj Keshvani after his name came cropped up during the interrogation of Kaizan Ebrahim, who was arrested by the agency in this case earlier.

“We have seized 590 gm of hashish, 0.64 gm of LSD sheets, 304 gm of marijuana including imported marijuana joints and capsules, Rs 1,85,200 in cash and 5,000 Indonesian Rupiah after the raids on Keshvani,” Jain said.

Earlier in the day, NCB Joint Director Sameer Wankhede said, “Summons has been given to Rhea. She was at her home.” Advocate Satish Maneshinde, who represents Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, said the actor was prepared for arrest.

“Rhea Chakraborty is ready for arrest as this is a witch hunt and if loving some one is a crime she will face the consequences of her love. Being innocent, she has not approached any court for Anticipatory Bail in all the cases foisted by Bihar Police now with CBI , ED and NCB,” he said in a statement.

The NCB, in its remand application, said Showik would be confronted with the other accused and Rhea, who is not named in this FIR yet. The agency further said that Showik and Samuel Miranda, Sushant Singh Rajput’s housekeeper, were involved in organising weed for the later actor.

An official said the summons is in connection with some “incriminating chats” they found in a WhatsApp group that had Rhea, Showik, Miranda and Dipesh Sawant, Rajput’s cook, as members. Sawant too was placed under arrest by the NCB late Saturday.

It was the ED that was investigating a case against Rhea and her family which had passed details of chats from Rhea’s phone to the NCB that led to an FIR being registered.

While so far there have not been any major seizures of marijuana from those arrested, the NCB has maintained its case is about the conspiracy to procure and supply marijuana, for which seizures are not necessary.

On the other hand, Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Meetu Singh appeared before the CBI in connection with the agency’s probe into the actor’s death, PTI reported. Rajput’s business manager Shruti Modi, his talent manager Jaya Saha and cook Neeraj were also questioned by the CBI on Sunday
