10 beauty and wellness tricks you can learn from Tara Sutaria's Instagram

Here is a sneak-peek into the makeup inspiration that Tara Sutaria shares on the social media platform

Tara Sutaria might not post photos and videos on Instagram every day, but when she does, her beauty looks are save-worthy. Whether she's trying a bold eyeshadow or a dramatic hairstyle just to hang out at home, here's what you can cop from her best beauty moments.

1) Red eyeshadow can be a bold but fun choice

Experimenting with red eyeshadow isn't the easiest—when done wrong, you can look sick or tired instead of wide-eyed and awake. But Sutaria, who has always been a fan of makeup, likes to try new things. “When I was 16, we went to London one summer, and I used all my pocket money for the trip on makeup,” she shared. To make it work, keep the rest of the makeup clean and cool-toned, as the red will bring out any potential redness on the face even further.

2) Contouring can add definition to your face

Sutaria likes to enhance her already-high cheekbones with bronzer underneath them, and a shimmery highlight on the tops of them—where light naturally hits. In terms of makeup hacks she swears by, Sutaria likes to put highlighting powder on with a brush, and then spray a shine + setting spray on top to get a glossy finish. As far as blush goes, Sutaria applies her lipstick “on the apples” of her cheeks to get the “right flushed look."

3) Experimenting with makeup while at home can be a good way to practise your skills

While she's used to her fair share of working with makeup artists and hairstylists, Sutaria likes to play with makeup by herself too. While in lockdown at home, she applied a full smoky eye and worked her hair into large-barrelled curls for a night in. “Date night (with myself, in my living room), she said. Even while on set, Sutaria liked working on her skills. “When my team gets done with my hair and makeup and I have a little time, I like to sit them down in the chair and do theirs. It lets me practice my skill,” she told Vogue India.

4) Under-liner can be a good idea

Sutaria rimmed her eyes with a black eyeliner, smoking it down her lower lids while keeping her top lids light and shimmery. Fluttery lashes balance out the liner, while a subtle highlight in her inner corners wakes up and brightens the entire face.

5) Picking one feature is key

Sutaria knows that if she's doing a smoky eye, she's keeping it simple when it comes to her lipstick shade—the actor always picks one feature to highlight. She owes this awareness to a makeup faux pas from years ago. “A while ago, I did my own makeup for a performance. I did it quickly in low lighting, going with a heavy smoky eye and a super dark lip. It looks so unbalanced, and I was so embarrassed when I saw pictures of it later,” she shared.

6) If you have a lipstick shade you like, keep it close

Whether it's a bold red or a glossy pink, when you find a lipstick shade that works for your skin tone and needs, it pays to keep it close by. “I always carry a lipstick in my handbag even if I don't have anything else in there,” confirmed Sutaria. Her pick is usually a rose or light pink shade that she accentuates with lip gloss.

7) When in doubt, throw your hair into a high ponytail

A high ponytail like Sutaria chooses often can pull the face up, making it look tighter and tauter. If you'd like to do it at home, align it to your cheekbones diagonally, and pull it back tight. Spritz on hairspray and smoothen any flyaways with a bristle brush.

8) A good skincare routine is paramount

While makeup can go a long way, a solid skincare routine that works for you is the best foundation. For Sutaria, that means consistently finding a routine she likes and keeping to it. “I like being simple when it comes to skincare. I just try to hydrate as much as I can, and maintain a cleanse-tone-moisturise routine,” she shared.

9) Sometimes, you just need to keep it simple

While new skincare treatments are always flooding the market, knowing what works for you is more important. “I have heard of PRP and the Vampire Facial, but I've never done it,” shared Sutaria. Instead, she likes going the DIY route. "There's this face mask that I love that my grandma makes. It has yoghurt, turmeric, chickpea flour and honey. I leave it on for like 15-20 minutes and then wash it off; it makes my skin glow and look brighter almost immediately.”

10) Find a workout that you love

Sutaria may not like picking up weights, but dancing and pilates are her go-tos. “I don’t go to the gym. I dance, and, sometimes, I like to do Pilates.” The actor likes to keep a consistent routine, and both pilates and dance help to improve metabolism, heart health and general wellbeing.
