Australia secures access to AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine within months
Australia on Monday said it will receive the first batches of a potential COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021, as the country's virus hotspot said the number of new daily infections has fallen to a 10-week low. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said his government has struck a manufacturing deal with CSL Ltd to produce an AstraZeneca and Oxford University COVID-19 vaccine, with 3.8 million doses to be delivered in January and February 2021.

94,000 fresh cases on Sunday cap worst week of pandemic
Daily Covid-19 cases in India zoomed to another record high on Sunday with more than 94,000 fresh infections, capping the deadliest week yet of the pandemic in the country. Over 5.8 lakh coronavirus cases were recorded during the week (August 31-September 6), a 13% jump over the previous week (August 24-30), as per data collated from state governments. This was the second straight week of double-digit growth in cases as the August 24-30 week too had seen a 13% rise.

Over 3,800 Punjab policemen Covid-19 infected so far
Over 3,800 Punjab policemen have tested positive for Covid-19 since the pandemic began, an official statement said on Sunday.It said senior police officials are calling up Covid-19 infected personnel to motivate them to fight the disease. The Punjab Police is also providing free health kits with a pulse oximeter, sanitisers and medicines to the infected policemen, it said.
